The PM5005 amplifier from the Japanese manufacturer Marantz pleases with a laconic design and excellent technical characteristics, thanks to which you can organize cinemas, parties and simply enjoy the Hi-Fi sound of your favorite music at home.
Design and interfaces
The device measuring 44x37x10 cm and weighing 6.7 kg is enclosed in a silver or black metal case and equipped with anti-resonant supports. The settings panel impresses with its original, unhackneyed design with perfect symmetry. On the sides there are large controls for selecting the signal source and volume level, in the centre there is a thin strip of the display, below it there are smaller controls — Bass, Treble, Balance. There is also a 6.35 mm (Jack) output for headphones, buttons for turning on a pair of speakers A and B, as well as Source Direct and Loudness. The first turns on the Bypass direct connection mode, the second — loudness.
On the rear panel we have a traditional set of inputs for a vinyl player, CD, Network and two pairs of inputs / outputs for a recorder. You can also connect two pairs of speakerphones to the amplifier at the same time. All tulips have gilded connectors.
Control is carried out both manually and from the remote control, which is compatible with other Japanese-made devices, such as a receiver. Remote Control connectors are present.
Sound and other features
The amplifier is equipped with quality components to drive speakers up to 40 watts into 8 ohms, and 55 watts into 4 ohms. The device forms a beautiful sound of any track, even orchestral music, in the range of 10 – 50,000 Hz. Commonly found only in more expensive models, current feedback technology provides fast and accurate signal processing. The result is a perfect balance when playing stereo sound. With a good arrangement of acoustics in a suitable room, the scene is confidently drawn, vocals and some instruments are localized. When connecting a vintage audio system, the sound is very warm, on a more modern one it is accurate, elastic, sonorous, airy with voluminous bass, if the acoustics allow.
Among other useful features of the device, we note support for the Standby mode, which consumes only 0.3 W, as well as a detachable cable. No need to worry about dismantling the entire amplifier if it suddenly fails.
The Marantz PM5005 is perfect for the home, drives just about any low power speaker system, and is easy to control and set up. However it costs more than most other state employees ($400).
