The most expensive prime in Fujifilm's line of optics is focused on portrait shooting — its equivalent focal length practically corresponds to the canonical 85 mm, lagging behind the indicated value by only 1 mm.
The nature of the drawing
The portrait orientation of the lens is confirmed by the nature of its pattern with a delicate study of the model's skin structure, as well as soft and plastic blurring of the background. The separation of the subject from the background when shooting with open apertures is very smooth. In addition, special lenses in the optical scheme of the lens completely remove chromatic aberrations at the boundaries of high-contrast image transitions. Only vignetting can disturb the photographer, but in some cases it is not necessary to get rid of it.
Shooting conditions
In conjunction with Fuji's top-end mirrorless cameras based on a low-noise X-Trans sensor, the lens allows you to get high-quality results even when shooting in very difficult lighting conditions(for example, by candlelight). But in bright sunlight, it is advisable to use a lens hood — the lens is prone to side flare and, accordingly, the appearance of glare in the frame.
Aperture control
The "R" index in the model index indicates a separate aperture control ring on the lens barrel. It has a discrete stroke in 1/3 stop increments, which allows you to set the required aperture value intuitively — without looking at the scale. If you have a persistent desire to shoot at the most open aperture during the day, you can recommend purchasing an ND filter with a diameter of 62 mm in pair with the lens, which will help get rid of overexposure by absorbing some of the excess light.
Individuality
Although the focus speed is not too fast compared to other representatives of the Fuji X system, the lens outperforms all of them due to its individual pattern. Its high aperture allows you to work with a very shallow depth of field, and its delicate bokeh will emphasize the artistry of any shot.
