From the press release:

The EPSON Stylus Photo R800 is a high-end A4 printer that embodies EPSON's latest inkjet photo technology and meets the most demanding requirements of professional photographers and experienced amateur photographers. Thanks to the new eight-colour Ultra Chrome Hi-Gloss pigment ink printing system, the printer reproduces the widest possible colour gamut, exceeding the colour gamut of the traditional photo printing system. At the same time, the light fastness of the ink reaches 100 years *, which is significantly superior to analogue photo printing. The printer supports printing on the widest possible range of media, including roll paper and CDs. The use of eight individual high-capacity ink cartridges reduces the cost of printing. High print speed and low noise make it an indispensable element of a professional photo studio.

New EPSON Ultra Chrome Hi-Gloss Pigment Ink
The EPSON Stylus Photo R800 printer uses new EPSON Ultra Chrome Hi-Gloss pigment ink, designed specifically for professional photo printing. Deliver unsurpassed photo quality, extremely high environmental resistance, and an incredibly wide colour gamut far superior to analogue silver halide printing.

A feature of Ultra Chrome Hi-Gloss pigment inks is the highest ink resistance to various environmental influences on any media, including plain paper. Each pigment particle is enclosed in a polymer shell that protects the pigment from light, gas, water, mechanical stress, etc. Printed on the EPSON Stylus Photo R800, photos will delight you for many years - after all, the light fastness of Ultra Chrome Hi-Gloss ink reaches 100 years *.

eight colour printing system

For the first time - red and blue dyes
The EPSON Stylus Photo R800 printer uses a new eight-colour printing system. For the first time, completely new dyes - red and blue - are used, which significantly expand the colour gamut reproduced by the EPSON Stylus Photo R800. The addition of two new colours to the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) colour system makes it possible to reproduce colour tints not reproduced by other printing systems, including analogue with silver halide. The EPSON Stylus Photo R800 delivers the widest colour gamut of any photo printer and allows you to print true-to-life photographs with the most accurate reproduction of sunset, sea, sky, and more.

Two types of black
To optimize printing on different types of media, the printer uses two types of black - standard (for glossy media) and matte black (for matte paper).

Standard Black provides deep rich blacks on glossy media.

Matte black is characterized by increased optical density and reduced absorbency on matte media, including plain paper. This greatly improves the clarity and saturation of images.

The EPSON Stylus Photo R800 printer has two black cartridges installed at the same time - standard and matte black. There is no need to change from one black cartridge to another when printing glossy or matte photos and text. The printer driver automatically selects which type of black to use based on the selected media.

Gloss optimization technology
The EPSON Stylus Photo R800 is the first printer to use Gloss Optimizer Technology, which greatly improves the quality of printing on glossy photo paper, producing stunning glossy photos that outperform traditional photo lab printing.

Each pigment particle in Ultra Chrome Hi-Gloss Ink is encapsulated in a polymer shell. When it hits the paper, the polymer bonds the pigment particles between themselves and the paper, forming a smooth surface. This is necessary in order to provide optimal light reflection, which, in turn, improves colour reproduction.

However, in some areas of the image, such as light and neutral areas that use minimal dye, the glossy surface may be uneven due to low pigment concentration, which can lead to diffuse light reflection and poor colour reproduction. It is in such areas that Gloss is used - a transparent polymer that levels the surface. Thus, Gloss Optimization Technology ensures optimal light reflection and improves colour reproduction, and also eliminates the possible effect of colour shifting under different lighting angles.

The printer uses a separate cartridge with Gloss - a transparent polymer. The printer driver automatically analyzes the image and uses Gloss only in the required areas with low pigment concentration. However, the user can control the use of Gloss to achieve the desired result:

The printer driver offers several options for using Gloss:

  • Off - Gloss is not used
  • Image - Gloss is used only in the necessary areas of the image
  • Entire Sheet - Gloss is used on the entire printed surface (Bordered and Borderless printing modes)

Gloss optimization technology is specially designed for high quality printing of glossy photos (on EPSON Premium Glossy Photo Paper, Premium Semigloss Photo Paper). Gloss is not supported on matte paper. However, Gloss can be used when printing on plain paper to improve the print quality of colour images.

new Micro Piezo printhead - the highest quality and speed of printing

The EPSON Stylus Photo R800 uses a new piezoelectric print head to produce perfectly shaped ink droplets with an ultra-small volume of only 1.5 picotiers, the smallest ink droplet in the world. Combined with the highest resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi and Variable Dot Printing Technology, it delivers superb detail, smooth colour gradations and accurate neutral tones.
A new printer engine, up to 1440 nozzles (180 nozzles per colour) and improved paper feed deliver extremely fast print speeds of up to 17 ppm for black text and 39 seconds for 10x15 photo. At the same time, even in high-resolution print modes, it is possible to achieve high speed without loss of quality - due to the use of a unique Variable Drop Printing Technology - when larger drops are used to reproduce areas of solid colour, and ultra-small drops are used to draw details and halftones. 1.5 picoliters.

separate high capacity cartridges

The EPSON Stylus Photo R800 printer uses eight separate high-capacity ink cartridges, which can significantly reduce the cost of printing - because you only change the cartridge when the ink has run out. Each Intellidge cartridge is equipped with a microchip that remembers the ink level - the printer driver displays information about the level of ink in the cartridge and notifies you when a particular colour needs to be replaced. A partially used cartridge can be removed from the printer (for example, install a new one before a large print volume), and then return to a partially used one - the microchip will save information about the ink level. Thus, the most efficient use of ink is achieved.

maximum compatibility with various types of media

The EPSON Stylus Photo R800 is designed for professional photo printing and is compatible with a wide range of media sizes and types.

Printing borderless photos
The printer supports borderless photo printing on a variety of sheet and roll paper sizes, allowing you to immediately receive finished photos without white borders around the edges - just like in a traditional photo lab. There is no need to use larger paper or trim the white borders around the edges of the sheet.

Roll paper printing
The printer supports printing on roll paper with a maximum width of 210 mm. The roll paper holder is supplied with the printer. The Roll Paper Printing feature is especially useful for printing panoramic images (including borderless) at user-specified lengths.

Printing on CD/DVD/MCD
With the Print to CD feature, you can create a professional look for your digital photo archive or CDs of your photographs yourself. The printer supports printing on CD/DVD and mini-discs ("business cards")**. Disc feeding is carried out from the front panel, the disc feeding tray is included as standard. EPSON PRINT CD software is included with the software package for creating disc layouts, which provides unlimited layout options, text overlays, and more. To achieve the best print quality on various discs, the printer driver offers two print modes depending on the surface type of the disc - standard and rich.
