Reliable and inexpensive branded medium power supply (500 W) with active power factor correction and moderate energy efficiency. It is one of the junior models of the 2021 Chieftec iARENA family. It is positioned as a product of the basic price category, designed to power multifunctional home personal computers and inexpensive gaming systems. Can be a reliable power source for entry-level station workstations. Meets the ATX 12V v2.3 standard, compatible with any consumer models of motherboards. For safe operation, it is equipped with a multi-level protection system (including OVP, OPP, SCP, UVP, SIP). The hardware platform of the Chieftec iARENA GPA GPA-500S8 power supply is based on traditional circuitry. On the + 12V line, the device is capable of delivering current up to 38A, which is 8...8% of the declared nameplate power. A high-quality element base guarantees good stabilization of all lines and a decent level of efficiency (80%). A relatively quiet 120 mm fan with a durable bearing and an automatic control system is responsible for cooling the unit. Cable lines do not have a braid and consist of AWG18 wires. In addition to the standard ATX 24-pin (20+4) and EPS/ATX12V 8-pin (4+4) lines, there is a line with a PCI-E 8-pin (6+2) connector for powering a gaming video card, a line with three SATA connectors and cable with 2xMOLEX (4-pin) + Floppy.

Energy saving

Chieftec iARENA GPA-500S8 is an updated version of the GPA-500S power supply. The main innovation was increased efficiency to 80 percent, now corresponding to the 80 PLUS standard (not to be confused with 80 PLUS Bronze). Simply put, less electricity is wasted now. The old and new models are easy to distinguish by the colour of the sticker: black is now used instead of yellow.

No extra noise

Of the total 500 W, the Chieftec iARENA GPA-500S8 delivers 396 W of electricity through the +12 V line. At the same time, the line is divided into two virtual channels: up to 24 A for CPU and motherboard and up to 21 A for the graphics card (but not more than 33 A at the same time). In a simple PC, the fan is almost inaudible, and under a load of up to 350 W, the noise level can be described as average.

Powerful but not omnipotent

As a result, the Chieftec iARENA GPA-500S8 power is enough to power a gaming PC even with an overclocked Core i7 or Ryzen 7 processor and any one graphics card, with the exception of the most power-hungry Radeon RX Vega 64. But given the presence of only one 8-pin power connector graphics cards may require a Molex adapter. But for Core i9 and Threadripper processors, this PSU is better not to use. Through one 4-pin connector, these processors can be powered, but there is a high probability of melting the wires (it is safer to connect via 4 + 4-pin). In addition, the processor cable is relatively short (38cm), so the iARENA GPA-500S8 is better suited for cases with a top-mounted PSU than a bottom-mounted one.
