How to choose a water filter and water filter cartridgesKey criteria for choosing a water filtration system and cartridges for them

A reverse osmosis filter from a renowned player in the water purification systems market — Barrier — handles the task of 5-stage filtering of tap water from tiny particles of contamination, harmful impurities, nitrates, pesticides, and heavy metal ions.

Reverse Osmosis

The first stage of filtration is mechanical, during which large suspended particles sized from 1 micrometer (sand, rust, scale, etc.) are removed from the water. The next step is sorption purification. This procedure cleanses the water from active chlorine compounds and organic impurities. The water is then prepared for the reverse osmosis system, which allows for the removal of harmful viruses, bacteria, and tiny inclusions at the molecular level.

Final Stage

The filtration procedure concludes with the «rinsing» of the purified water through a post-carbon filter element — in the final stage, the water is conditioned and further cleaned after being stored in an accumulation tank. The use of such a tank in construction is a necessary measure because reverse osmosis systems do not boast high filtration efficiency. In this case, the model yields about 200 ml of clean drinking water from the mains supply for every 1 minute of «pure» time.

Simple as Can Be

The Barrier WaterFort OSMO also appeals with its simple installation and quick-release cartridge fittings featuring SmartLock technology, which includes a «foolproof» protection — it's impossible to unscrew the filter housing that is under pressure. The declared service life of the replaceable cartridges with filter elements is about 5,000 liters, but if inherently dirty water flows from the tap, there is a high probability that the cartridges will need to be replaced earlier than stated.
