The new flagship from B&W
The PX7 are the new flagship headphones from one of the top audio companies in the industry, Bowers & Wilkins. They look like a typical 2019 model: active noise cancellation, combined connection with support for Bluetooth 5.0, aptX HD and Multipoint, a capacious battery that can enjoy music for 30 hours. And do not forget about the well-thought-out control system, with tricks like "move the earpiece away from your ear to pause it." So the question is, what new are they bringing to the overheated headphone market, and are they worth their $500?
Top Sound
If you're lucky enough to come across B&W products one day, you can already guess what it's worth. This year we have tested a lot of diverse bluetooth headphones and the B&W PX7 in terms of sound quality do most of them. Excellent stereo image, powerful, punchy and well-accented bass, excellent sound balance: in general, everything that we loved in the PX model is fully present here. Given the class, the headphones turned out to be omnivores, but they are best at fast and dynamic compositions. Even banal minimal techno can reveal itself to them from an unexpected angle. The noise canceling of the new B&W generation has been definitely improved. In previous B&W models, turning on ANC at maximum power noticeably affected the sound of the headphones, but here we have a fairly stable sound both with and without ANC. The timbre still changes slightly, there is more bass, the middle is more recessed, and the headphones sound more booming, but the difference is not very big, as it should be for premium headphones.
Practical carbon instead of metal
The B&W PX7 has been designed with active everyday wear in mind. In the past flagship headphones of the company, there was a lot of decor, leather (hello, B&W P9 Signature) and elegant metal inserts that literally screamed that this was something very expensive and status. The B&W PX7 retained the familiar B&W PX-style curves and comfortable temples, but the main material was very high quality carbon fibre. It is not afraid of scratches, does not collect fingerprints, is not afraid of being crushed in a backpack and, judging by the reviews on the network, can withstand a fall from a table without any problems. Even cooler, it feels like some kind of natural material to the touch, and not the carbon fibre that has set the teeth on edge from the back of a cheap smartphone. On the head, the headphones stay just fine, Bowers & Wilkins PX7 is one of the few full-size models that is quite comfortable to use during sports. Against the background of all that has been said, the quality of the headset was a little disappointing. Even in a relatively quiet environment, the interlocutor complains about the illegibility of words and "the sound is like from a barrel."
