Mid-Range Gaming Laptop

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43 is a member of the entry-level gaming line from Acer. However, such positioning is very conditional and in the bowels of the case we are in for surprises in the form of 16 GB of RAM, a bundle of HDD and SSD with a total volume of 1256 GB, a high-performance Ryzen 7 with multithreading support and an RX 560X graphics card, which is comparable in speed to the GTX 1050 Ti . Given that the Nitro is asking for a little less than $1,000, this package looks very attractive.

Modest and tasteful

Compared to previous 2017-2018 models, the appearance of the new Nitro has become more restrained, but thanks to the cropped monitor edges familiar to the series, an aggressive radiator grille and carbon edging, you can’t confuse it with an ordinary office car. Plus, instead of trendy RGB keys, here we are dealing with classic red backlighting and dedicated WASD keys.

15" IPS screen

The 15-inch Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43 display is made using IPS technology and has a Full HD resolution (1920x1080 px). Visually, the display shows a neutral colour picture with a uniform backlight. By the standards of this class, the screen is good, and you can close your eyes to the colour reproduction, as it does not claim to be a professional level.

Efficient cooling system

Even with an external examination, one can note a qualitative approach to cooling. This follows from the presence of large radiator grilles in the back, as well as many ventilation holes for air flow on the bottom of the laptop. Thanks to this, the cooling system adequately handles with not the coldest components. In stress tests, the processor temperature can reach up to 80 degrees, but even in this case, throttling (note: an indicator of performance loss) is minimal and the frame rate remains stable. A rather thick body in this case can be attributed to the pluses, since the components do not have to fry in tight quarters, as in some thin gaming laptops.

Up to 7 hours on a single charge

Perhaps the initial positioning of the laptop is most clearly reflected in its modest configuration: a plastic case, one USB-C port, a backlit keyboard and a minimum of bells and whistles like fast charging or a fingerprint scanner. Considering the price, the functionality is quite adequate. Moreover, there is a fairly high-quality battery, which, with others, can withstand up to 7 hours from a single charge. The only inconvenience is that the speakers are traditionally deeply recessed into the case and they are hard to hear if the cooling system is running at full capacity.
