Sequel

Crane 2 is the second version of the popular one-handed gimbal for DSLR and mirrorless cameras. With it, the company fixed some shortcomings of the first version, improved ergonomics, made the control joystick more convenient and added a couple of useful features.

Friendly with big cameras

To begin with, let's go over the main characteristics of Crane 2. The manufacturer claims a permissible load of up to 3.2 kg, an operating time of 12 to 18 hours (depending on the weight of the camera), and compatibility with most popular cameras. Also added is a quick release plate and the ability to control exposure settings and focus on Canon cameras. The stabilizer itself is made qualitatively and reliably, it lies comfortably in the hand.

Contents of delivery

The delivery set cannot be called rich, from additional accessories, the box contains only a convenient tripod for quick adjustment of the stabilizer, a cable for connecting to different cameras and a charger. No additional batteries, handles or remote controls for you, but the case for packing the stabilizer seemed quite strong and convenient.

Convenient setup

Crane 2 is easy to set up thanks to the quick-release platform, which is the first to appear in such devices. It not only speeds up setup and calibration, but also allows you to quickly remove the camera from one device and hook it to another. For example, remove the camera from the gimbal and install it on a tripod, monopod or slider.

Convenient screen

A small screen appeared just above the joystick, which displays information about the stub mode, battery charge, etc., and also allows you to change the sensitivity and speed settings. Canon camera owners are waiting for additional goodies, using the screen they can completely change all exposure settings: aperture, shutter speed, ISO, make exposure compensation, turn on video recording and take a picture. Theoretically, Zhiyun could update the firmware and make the Crane 2 compatible with cameras from other manufacturers in the same way, but there is no information about this yet.

Three operating modes

There are only three modes of operation: tracking along the X axis, tracking along all axes and fixing the position. Unfortunately, there are no such things as time-lapse or auto-panorama. It is difficult to call this a critical omission, but for a model that claims leadership in its price segment, I would like to have a couple of additional cards up my sleeve.
