Inexpensive on-camera flashes under the sign of the Chinese brand Yongnuo have won an army of fans among amateur photographers and photography enthusiasts. The YN685 model has everything you want to see on board a functional flash.

Under one wing

Yongnuo YN685 combines under one wing the charms of a TTL device and radio in the YN-622C synchronization system. Thanks to the presence of a built-in receiver of this system, the flash does not need to be connected to an external receiver for remote control of "ignitions". We are talking here exclusively about the slave mode (Slave). Unfortunately, the flash cannot act as a master.

Automation

The model's guide number is 60, and the angle of light it diffuses can be changed within the limits from a wide-angle value of 20 mm to a telephoto position of 200 mm. With a retractable diffuser, the minimum threshold of the focal length is reduced to 16 mm. In addition to single pulses, the flash generates volleys in strobe mode. The additional assets of the model include an autofocus backlight in the form of a laser grid in the center of the frame. It will come in handy when focusing in pitch darkness.

Under the auspices of accessibility

The mission of controlling the shooting parameters is entrusted to the shoulders of the button-wheel panel with an informative display at the head. The device is powered by a quartet of "finger" batteries. The flash does not "squeeze" all the juices out of them - with one division of the charge, the "puff" is not guaranteed to work. Also, the quality of the materials and assembly of the model causes complaints, but given the rich functionality and ultra-democratic price tag, these flaws are completely forgivable.
