Solution for gamers from Redmi
Despite the fact that Xiaomi is no longer a newcomer to the laptop market, it does not have many gaming laptops in its range. To correct this situation and introduce gamers closer to the brand's products, the Redmi G laptop with a not-so-formatted 16-inch display, an unusual and, as always, tempting ratio between price and functionality, should.
Minimalism in action
Let's start with the design. When opened, Redmi G looks unusually strict and minimalistic, and only a keyboard with a slanted space and illuminated WASD keys hints at its character. The keyboard turned out to be surprisingly convenient and versatile, you get used to typing and gaming dynamics very quickly, and a neat white backlight helps in the dark and does not hurt your eyes. Returning to the design, Redmi G plays with new colours when we close the display lid and see an unusual textured plastic, reminiscent of some kind of high-tech armor from fantastic shooters. The case is perfectly assembled, the plastic does not collect fingerprints, and the display is freely opened with one hand.
Core i5 + GTX 1650
The 16-inch IPS display is very, very good. At least it has a good margin of brightness and adequate colour reproduction. But the refresh rate in our assembly is only 60 Hz. For games, I would like 144 Hz, but such displays are in higher status assemblies with Core i7. As for hardware, in the current realities of a semiconductor shortage, a bunch of an eight-thread Core i5 processor and a GTX 1650 graphics card, which complement 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD, looks like the best solution for many modern titles with medium-high graphics settings and Full HD resolution. Of course, the conditional Cyberpunk 2077 or Deathloop will lag, but these are the problems of optimizing the games themselves, and not the graphics card.
Great but not perfect laptop
During the tests, Redmi G made an excellent impression, but there were some drawbacks. The largest and almost the only stone flies into the garden of the cooling system. When loaded, the laptop noticeably heats up, and one of the air outlets radiates heat on the right hand, in which the mouse lies. And it would be fine if it was a miniature laptop, but no, Redmi G turned out to be moderately thick (24 mm) and weighty (2.5 kg). Apparently, Xiaomi engineers got carried away with design. Otherwise, this is a pretty solid laptop with excellent equipment and functionality: there is Wi-Fi 6, a multifunctional USB-C and a good sound card with DTS X Ultra, and the laptop itself does not slow down when disconnected from the network. For gaming laptops, this is rare.
