Tanita BC-587 scales are a versatile tool for both professional medical use and home use — they not only measure weight, but also analyze the indicators of human body composition.

Design

The multifunctional device is enclosed in a tempered glass case that can withstand a load of up to 200 kg. At the top of the glass platform is a large backlit LCD display, and in the centre is a number of analogue keys, each of which is responsible for its own parameter. Thanks to this, the scales are controlled on an intuitive level — everyone will figure out how to set them up. This solution has its pros and cons: on the one hand, the buttons are easy to press with your toes, and on the other, they can be stepped on inadvertently. The batteries are 4 AA batteries.

4 users

Scales remember the data of 4 users, each of which has a separate mechanical key. They also have guest mode. Anyway, before the first weighing, it is necessary to enter the main parameters of a person: gender, age and height, and in the case of active sports, additionally select the “Athlete” mode. In the future, it is enough to stand on the scales and press the appropriate button, after which the device will automatically determine the weight and analyze the body composition.

Analysis

The analysis of body parameters includes data on the percentage of fat, water, internal (visceral) fat, bone mass, muscle mass and the determination of metabolic age based on them(the maximum value is limited to 50 years). Measurement of these parameters occurs with the help of weak electrical impulses that pass through the biological tissues of the body. The data is based on the resistance to the passage of impulses. You should not hope for 100% accuracy of the results, but judging by the feedback from users, the device determines various indicators more or less correctly. The analysis is not recommended for people with a pacemaker, as the latter may fail.

Orientation

Among other things, the scale gives recommendations about the calories in the user's diet. Given their wide functionality, the device can be recommended to everyone without exception.
