The Pioneer SE-MHR5 headphones offer a remarkable width and depth of soundstage that could make even high-end brands envious, especially when used with jazz compositions. They come with a balanced cable and boast a solid packaging and appearance. However, some users find the sound to be too "dark" and note a dip in the 4-5 and 8 kHz range, which may not appeal to everyone. The cable quality and the brand's plug fixing system limit the use of alternative cables. While the headphones are Hi-Res certified, this doesn't necessarily translate to exceptional sound quality for all genres. They are very genre-specific, making them more suitable for fans of instrumental music. Despite these limitations, they remain a valuable addition for those who appreciate their specific sound profile.

The Hi-Res certification for these headphones doesn't really say much. The first impression from listening is complete confusion. How can headphones with such specifications sound so, to put it mildly, strange? There's a clear dip in the 4-5 and 8 kHz range. I'm not a fan of "burn-in" methods, but having spent the money, I decided to try everything. I ran TARA LABS - Cascade Noise Burn-In for about 100 hours. There was no revolution. For me, they revealed themselves in jazz compositions. Here they demonstrate an enormous depth of soundstage (especially from a balanced output). In short, these are VERY genre-specific headphones. Being a fan of instrumental music, I decided to keep them (5th in my collection). Width and depth of the soundstage that would make "Beyers and Sennheisers" of the HD series envious. Includes a balanced cable. Solid packaging and appearance. Too "dark" (for me). Cable quality. Brand plug fixing system making it impossible to use an alternative cable. Cup diameter.
