The lid opens smoothly when you press the button, but you have to close it manually. It's not the best solution for a steel kettle. It has a boil-dry protection feature: if you accidentally turn it on while it's empty or there's not enough water, the kettle will automatically switch off. It requires at least 3 cups of water to turn it on. We use the "keep warm" function all the time; the water stays hot for an hour after boiling. When you take the kettle off the base, the keep-warm function turns off and switches right back on when you place the kettle back. The kettle has a good filter that protects against unwanted particles when you're drinking hard water. The case is stylish, and the handle is made of high-quality plastic.
