An “almost middle-class” smartphone with a huge HD screen at the head of the front panel (6.5" diagonally), balanced hardware and a triple photo tube as the main camera. The dimensions of the gadget's display allow you to enjoy watching YouTube videos, comfortably surf the World Wide Web, and surf in social networks. Also, the smartphone does not graze the rear in the genre of mobile gaming — the eight-core MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, coupled with 4 GB of RAM, confidently turns toys at medium-low graphics settings.

Memory OPPO A31 "brought" 64 GB. If the free space runs out, the user has the right to resort to the services of a triple slot for two SIMs and a microSD memory expansion card (up to 256 GB inclusive). Photographs the model with a triple camera from the rear (the main 12 MP module in the company of a 2 MP macro lens and a 2 MP auxiliary image sensor to blur the background in portrait mode). The capacious 4230 mAh rechargeable battery enhances the positive impressions of the device.

Replacement OPPO A5s

Oppo is systematically updating its line of smartphones, and has not gone past the initial segment. The successful OPPO A5s was replaced by a new device with the A31 index. Compared to its predecessor, the novelty received a new, more modern exterior, a slight increase in hardware and cosmetic improvements in the new version of the shell based on Android 9.

Mediatek Helio P35 + 4GB RAM

In terms of hardware, the OPPO A31 has the following picture: not the most powerful eight-core Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35, 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage with support for memory cards. On the one hand, the processor is not the most powerful, on the other hand, the hardware is quite in line with the spirit of the times: 4 GB of RAM allows you to run several applications and keep a bunch of open tabs in the browser, and the processor provides decent shell speed with a minimum of slowdowns and freezes. The ColorOS shell is also well optimized, the menus open instantly, the animation is smooth, without glitches and jerks, and switching between applications is as smooth as possible.

Really big screen

The smartphone has a 6.5-inch IPS panel well calibrated in terms of colours and contrast. The resolution of the display is HD +, so the graininess of the pixels is noticeable from a short distance, but if you do not peer, then working with the screen is quite convenient. As we have already said, for many buyers, the “survivability” of a smartphone is more important, and such a display slightly reduces the load on the battery and hardware of the smartphone.

Triple camera with 12 MP main sensor

For some reason, OOPO focused on the triple camera, but in fact it is quite simple here: the rear camera consists of a 12 MP main module with f / 1.8 aperture and phase detection autofocus, an additional macro camera has a resolution of 2 MP, and the depth sensor has those same 2 MP at f/2.4. During the day, the main camera takes nice photos with good detail and fairly natural colour reproduction. In the evening, you can see that the matrix starts to make noise at higher ISO values and mostly “soap” is obtained.

Nothing personal

Oppo A31 may well claim good sales in its segment. Despite the presence of a far from top-end chipset, the system works quickly, and most importantly for a long time — the battery lasts for about 3 days of operation. Another question is that the field of smartphones up to $150 is not crowded now: the inexpensive Samsung A20 has fast charging and a more sophisticated Super AMOLED display, Redmi Note 8 is more massive, but cooler in almost any indicator, and the excellent Huawei P Smart 2019 was recently considered one of the best smartphones in the mid-range price range. Oppo A31 has just a nice looking design (especially in turquoise colour), decent battery life and good system optimization. That's all. There is no USB-C, no fast charging, no NFC with dual-band Wi-Fi. And the price is higher than that of OPPO A5s.
