A powerful and convenient portable console from the Taiwanese manufacturer MSI, providing high performance and extensive functionality. It is a direct competitor to the increasingly popular portable consoles Valve Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go. MSI Claw 135H 512GB is equipped with a mobile processor Intel Core Ultra 5 135H and integrated graphics Intel Iris Xe, which allows launching most games on the Windows 11 platform, including demanding AAA titles.

Despite initial issues with performance and battery life caused by unsuccessful Intel drivers, after regular firmware updates, the device became significantly faster and now allows launching modern gaming blockbusters like Cyberpunk 2077, Spider-Man, and God of War at Full HD resolution and stable frame rate without significant stutters or drops. The built-in 7-inch display has a Full HD resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth gameplay, and the peak brightness of 500 nits allows for comfortable playing even in bright lighting.

The design of the MSI Claw is concise, though it is slightly heavier (680 grams) than its competitors. The device also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Thunderbolt protocol, providing additional connectivity and data exchange capabilities. An important feature is the TDP profile switch, allowing the adjustment of performance based on game requirements and remaining battery life.

Problematic Launch

The debut of the first portable console from MSI can hardly be called successful—putting it mildly. Rather, the famous phrase from a meme applies here: "it's a fiasco, brother." Being the only console on the market with an Intel chip, the MSI Claw encountered a whole set of issues: low performance, freezes, overheating, and rapid battery drain. However, credit where credit is due—through combined efforts, MSI and Intel quickly rectified the situation. After driver updates, the Claw became a worthy competitor to the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and Legion Go.

Moderate Performance

MSI released two versions of the console distinguished by processor power. The base model has a 14-core Intel Core Ultra 5 135H with integrated Intel Arc graphics on 7 Xe cores, complemented by 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a fast 512 GB Gen4 SSD. Notably, the junior version almost matches the senior version with the Core Ultra 7 and confidently handles indie projects and less demanding games at stable 60+ FPS. For heavy AAA titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or Spider-Man, however, it's more comfortable to play in 720p, lowering the graphics settings and activating upscaling. Problems might only arise in the most resource-intensive games on Unreal Engine 5—but these sometimes "lag" even on powerful PCs.

One of the Most Affordable Portable Consoles

The MSI Claw is equipped with a good 7-inch IPS display (1080p, 120 Hz, 500 nits), comfortable analog sticks, Wi-Fi 7 support, and a Thunderbolt 4 port. Noteworthy is the TDP profile switch, which allows manual adjustment of performance depending on game requirements and remaining battery charge (though the model's battery life is average). Overall, the console turned out to be interesting and affordable: its price is almost half that of the ROG Ally X. The MSI Claw doesn't claim to be the most powerful portable console but is excellent for indie games, past-generation AAA hits, and moderately demanding projects like Elden Ring.
