Wireless "droplets" in an elegant white robe belong to the genus of miniature Bluetooth headsets. A bright hoop on each of the earbuds highlights the ring light, which informs about the level of the remaining charge of the batteries with a capacity of 85 mAh each. "Paper" data on Meizu POP battery life — 3 hours of continuous playback of music tracks. The headphones “live” in a case equipped with its own 700 mAh battery. The model is well kept in the auricle, since the manufacturer put a great variety of silicone tips in the box with the headphones. It also features IPX5 water resistance, which makes the headset more attractive to active lifestyles who prefer playing sports instead of sitting in front of the TV screen. The headphones have a good volume margin, pleasant mids and modest bass.... Track switching is controlled by gestures — tap on the touch surface on each of the "ears". Sometimes active noise cancellation is mentioned in the characteristics of the model. It is, but it works exclusively in talk mode on the phone.

Video reviews

The Meizu brand pleases its fans not only with smartphones that are balanced in price and quality, but also with accessories for them. Meizu POP headphones are the answer to the eminent AirPods, which have already been appreciated by many “meizumans” and simply adherents of comfortable portable sound.

Waterproof case

Unlike AirPods, POP does not have characteristic long temples, these are in-ear sports models with IPx5 water protection. Of course, they should not be bathed in water, but a little rain or drops of sweat will not be afraid of them. For added protection , silicone covers are included in the kit, which you can put on your headphones and worry even less about their safety.

Reliable fixation

Ear pads of different sizes provide a secure fit in the ear, so that the headphones do not fall out while walking or exercising.

Good battery life and fast charging

Since the model is wireless, Meizu has worked hard on battery life. The compact plastic case has a built-in 700 mA battery that allows you to charge the headphones 4 times. Each charge will take an hour and a half, after which the “plugs” can be used for about 3 hours. That is, in total, the case provides battery life to the headphones up to 12 hours. It charges itself with a USB-C cable or wireless charging in about 2 hours. How much charge is left in the battery of the case, shows an external dot indication.

There are a couple of comments about charging the case. Firstly, for some reason, Type C is located at the bottom of the case, and not on the side, that is, the case will only have to be charged on its side, and secondly, not every wireless charger will be able to charge. Compatibility needs to be checked.

Otherwise, there are no complaints about the case, the headphones in it are tightly held on magnets, and they are conveniently removed from the sockets when the lid is opened.

Sound Features

Turning to the sound characteristics, we immediately note that it is low-cost. No worse than in AirPods, and for some even better, but neither AptX, nor, especially, AptX HD, or LDAC codec Meizu POP do not support, only the usual Bluetooth SBC standard. So, it is pointless to talk about any detailing, frequency study.

You can hardly distinguish a double bass from a bass guitar, and high ones are simply not able to accurately draw the textures of live instruments. Things are better with the middle frequencies, there are no complaints about the transmission of vocals, but the overall scene is blurry. However, given that Miezu Pop was created for active people, as well as as a headset, there are no comments on these issues. The sound is well separated from external noise, which is especially important in training, in the gym or on the street, and the audibility of the interlocutor during a conversation is quite clear.

Control

Headphones can be used separately. But the right one takes precedence. If you hide it in a case, the left earpiece will not work.

Conveniently implemented touch control. With a light touch on any of the headphones, you can adjust the volume, rewind tracks, turn on voice control, accept / reject calls. The set of functions depends on the capabilities of your smartphone or player. You should get used to the controls in order to prevent accidental touches and sensor activations.

Meizu POP cannot be considered a tracing paper with AirPods, much less positioned as an “apple device killer”, they are different and attractive in their own way. But, most importantly, they cost significantly less (from $ 80), and here AirPods definitely lose.
