Lightweight Champion

The Kolner KED 240V screwdriver is one of the lightest on the market. It weighs only 1.2 kg. Therefore, it is easy and pleasant to work with it, performing simple and uncomplicated tasks. But the balance of the tool is not the most successful. Due to the “light” handle, the centre of mass is shifted towards the cartridge, so the screwdriver slightly “nods”.

The tool is very cheap, and some of its features are related to this. In order to meet the strict limits of the "low-cost" price segment, in this model the manufacturer had to abandon the rubber pads on the handle and reduce the cable length to a minimum (its length is only 2 m). For the same purpose, a simple single-speed gearbox is used in a screwdriver. Although at full speed (800 rpm) you can drill wood and thin sheet metal, this tool cannot be considered a full replacement for a classic drill.

Not an athlete, but with a fighting spirit

The torque is frankly small (13 Nm), but it is enough to screw self-tapping screws up to 40 – 50 mm long and up to 4 – 5 mm in diameter into boards made of not the hardest wood species. The design of the “ratchet” has a nuance: even at the very first of 20 possible settings, the screwdriver turns quite quickly. Therefore, for delicate materials like thin planks, MDF or GKL, you should choose a more “gentle” tool that will not damage the surface (for example, special drywall screwdrivers).

Good "just in case" tool

Due to the low cost, Kolner drills and screwdrivers are suitable for the role of a tool that can be bought for a garage or summer cottage. They can handle simple tasks like building a fence or doing small DIY repairs. But for more intense work, you should choose something more powerful (and preferably with two speeds).
