Keychron J1 RGB Backlight (HS) Banana Switch
![]() | Expecting restock The Keychron J1 low-profile wireless keyboard in a 75% layout with tactile Banana switches offers a firmer alternative to Brown switches, which are also available in this lineup. The actuation force is 57 g compared to 47 g for the Brown, and the stroke to activation is slightly shorter at 1.7 mm instead of 1.8 mm. In practice, the difference is noticeable, as the Banana switches provide more pronounced resistance when pressed and a distinct tactile feedback, reducing accidental activations. This feature might be convenient for those who type a lot and prefer to feel the moment of actuation. In all other aspects, the hardware matches the Brown version: the same thin case with a height of 23 mm and a weight of 661 g, three connection modes (2....4 GHz radio channel with a polling rate of 1000 Hz, Bluetooth 5.2 connecting up to three devices, wired via a detachable USB-C), a battery capacity of 2000 mAh with autonomy of up to three weeks without backlight. The Keychron J1 RGB Backlight Banana Switch keyboard's firmware is built on the open QMK platform—using the Keychron Launcher web app, keys can be reassigned, and macros created separately for macOS, Windows, and Linux. The keycaps are low-profile, double-shot PBT plastic with grease resistance. The switches allow for hot-swapping, and inside the case, there is an acoustic IXPE pad to soften the sound of keystrokes. I’ve been using it for over a month. During this time, the connection via Bluetooth and dongle stopped working completely, fixed it by resetting to factory settings via the wire. Sometimes the Bluetooth disconnects and I have to switch to pairing mode and reconnect. The battery lasts 24 hours with backlighting, about 2 weeks without it, maybe less. Overall, the software was very disappointing, and this greatly affects the user experience, so I probably won’t recommend this keyboard. Design, build quality Battery, software that does not update |
not great, not terrible high-quality construction the battery lasts a couple of days to a week. It's very little and needs to be charged all the time. |
