Keenetic City KN-1510
Photos 13 | Outdated Product AC750 class dual-band wireless router supporting 802.11b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi networks and three 10/100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet wired LAN ports. Product of the 2018 model year. The manufacturer is positioned as a low-cost wireless router with the ability to simultaneously work in Wi-Fi bands of 2.4 and 5 GHz. Designed for use in a home/apartment/small office and provider tariff plans that provide cable connection to the global network at speeds up to 100 Mbps. As a basis for the hardware configuration of the device, a performant MediaTek MT7628N network processor operating at a clock frequency of 580 MHz is used. Thanks to it and three external antennas with a gain of 5 dBi, the Keenetic City KN-1510 router provides a large area of reliable wireless coverage. According to the manufacturer, it is capa...ble of supporting data transfer rates in the 2.4 GHz band up to 300 Mbps and in the 5 GHz band up to 433 Mbps. The given speed characteristics are quite enough for IPTV or SmartTV streaming, cloud services, online gaming, video communication with FullHD-image and other typical household tasks. All relevant security protocols are observed, reliable traffic encryption is possible. The router is easy to set up, which can be done through a regular WEB interface or "over the air" through the My.Keenetic mobile application for iOS and Android. |

Not a firmware, but an operating system
In 2017, ZyXel made Keenetic a separate sub-brand and completely redesigned the firmware of its routers for this purpose, turning the frankly outdated interface into a kind of operating system. Actually, that's why the firmware is called KeeneticOS, where OS stands for "operating system". Now, instead of the old-school interface, the user is greeted with a convenient user-friendly interface with a modular structure, which allows you to bring the settings you need to the main screen and hide everything else. This is not only visual, but also simplifies work on devices with different screen sizes. Plus there is support for Russian and Ukrainian languages. If this wealth of settings scares you, then Keenetic has a mobile app as an alternative that allows you to quickly set up your network with step-by-step instructions.
Back to back speed
The router has four fixed antennas — two for each band: antennas located on the rear panel — for the 2.4 GHz band, on the sides — for the 5 GHz band. Plus, Keenetic City KN-1510 supports the updated 802.11 ac communication standard and can work in dual-band mode, but the transmission rate at 5 GHz is not very different from 2.4 Hz — 433 Mbps versus 300 Mbps. On the one hand, this is lower than the general temperature in the ward (usually at 5 GHz routers give 867 Mbps), and this is enough for IPTV, cloud services, online gaming, video communication with FullHD-image and other typical household tasks.
To work in Mesh networks
The KN-1510 functional set is rather unusual for this price. First of all, the ability of the router to work in Mesh networks stands out. Unlike networks with a main router or repeaters, a system of several Mesh routers connects the network into a single fabric, where all access points are equal, and the coverage does not have "dead zones". The trick is that the system itself analyzes the location of the client and the signal level, depending on the proximity to any of the points in the network, and imperceptibly transfers it to the best available. For example, if you go from the hall to the kitchen and watch a video on YouTube, the network will automatically transfer you to the nearest router, and buffering will not stop even for a second.
