Boring name for a great laptop

The designers of HP laptops and the marketers who name them should be called to the carpet and asked where their fantasy has gone. If you open the company's catalog of models from recent years, you will see that all inexpensive models look exactly the same, and they have names that are like the code name for a Japanese satellite or a new strain of bacteria.

Workhorse with racehorse legs

The hero of today's review, the HP 15s-eq0000, belongs to the company's "digital" family of laptops, a kind of workhorses that are adequately equipped for their money, have good ergonomics, and in terms of design they borrow a lot from the more expensive HP Envy line. But in the case of this particular model, we get even more than we pay. Usually for $500 you will not find a Ryzen 5 Picasso-level processor with multi-threading and turbo boost up to 3.7 GHz. On such a kid, you can not only take notes on lectures and answer in the messenger, but also photoshop something, mount it or, for example, write beats in Ableton or FL Studio. Even though this is not the level of some Core i7 6700, it is quite close to it. Throw in a 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM with 8GB of RAM, and a Vega 8 mobile graphics card that rips apart the competition in non-gaming laptops for an unbeatable price-to-performance ratio.

15" VA display

The HP 15s-eq0000 has a 15-inch Full HD VA display. The screen gives quite a colorful and clear picture, and thanks to the anti-reflective coating allows you to comfortably work in the fresh air. However the brightness margin here is not the largest, and the colour reproduction is rather dull, 45% of the NTSC space coverage is the reality of inexpensive laptops, there is no getting around it.

Modest and modern

At the same time, the laptop, although it looks moderately modest, is modern. The matte aluminium-brushed plastic cover and the patterned grille that covers the speaker make it look like a high-end model in the Envy line, although the HP 15-dw0000 is part of the "multimedia" Pavilion in the HP 15-dw0000 lineup. On the other fronts, everything is also excellent: there is a USB C port, the battery can last up to 8-10 hours, there is fast charging (50% in 45 minutes), a fingerprint scanner, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, a card reader and an HD webcam. To be honest, we're pretty surprised it doesn't cost $100-$200 more. Perhaps, during long-term testing, some pitfalls would have surfaced, but there were no problems during the week of use.
