Hori Joy-Con Left

Alternative left controller for Nintendo Switch, released by third-party Hori in 2020. The main reason users choose this model instead of the standard Nintendo Joy-Con is the presence of a genuine 4-directional D-pad instead of four separate directional buttons, which many find difficult to get used to. This layout is especially convenient in fighting games, platformers, and retro games from the virtual console, where precise diagonal presses and quick combinations are required.

Besides the D-pad, the Hori Joy-Con Left features an analog stick, buttons, as well as one bumper and one trigger — a layout corresponding to the classic left Joy-Con. It connects to the console via Bluetooth 3.0, and the model can also work with Windows PCs. It's powered independently — the built-in battery provides up to 6 hours of gameplay, charging through a proprietary port (for example, when docked).

One limitation typical of third-party Joy-Cons should be noted: this model lacks an IR camera, accelerometer, and gyroscope, so motion control and games requiring item scanning (like Labo or Ring Fit) won't work here — it's a tool for classic button-based gameplay.
