A good machete at a reasonable price
28 July 2026
I bought the machete for hikes in the forest, fishing trips, etc., when I need to clear a path through thickets and branches, chop firewood, or defend myself from bears. I chose the Grand Way brand right away because I already have two regular folding knives and three throwing knives from them, and they have all performed well while costing several times less than expected. The first impression of this machete is, of course, its appearance: it looks very cool, feels great in the hand, and is satisfying to chop things with. It can even be used as a mini axe because it chops dry branches with ease, and the factory sharpening is excellent. After several hikes and edge tests, I did not notice any chips, although I did not chop oak branches with it, of course. Some branches simply break under its weight when chopping, because it weighs half a kilogram. Your hand also gets tired fairly quickly, by the way. The downside is that the lower part of the blade sticks out from the handle at an angle. I do not know whether mine is defective or they are all like that, but I had to grind it down myself because it was digging into my hand while chopping. The package includes a good sheath that can be attached to a belt if desired, as well as a cord that can be tightened around the hand so the machete does not suddenly fall out. There are no questions regarding the edged weapon classification, because Grand Way sends all its knives for forensic analysis before selling them. You can even download a PDF with the conclusion to your phone just in case.
