Inside the device is a power transformer with multiple taps, each providing a different transformation ratio. As soon as the voltage in the external network goes beyond the acceptable limits, the microprocessor control system determines which transformer winding to switch to, to decrease or increase the voltage.

Since switching occurs between discrete windings, the output voltage will not be exactly 220V but will be maintained in the range of ±8%. Thus, the output voltage will be in the range of 202V to 238V, which is absolutely safe for any modern device. The Forte HDR-2000 stabilizer is designed to protect household and office equipment from significant, but not extreme, voltage fluctuations.

There is support for a power-on delay function of 6 or 180 seconds, which is useful when used with refrigerators and air conditioners.
