Model overview based on user reviews
The FIRST Austria FA-5125-1 food dehydrator is a reliable and user-friendly appliance, ideal for preserving fruits and vegetables. Users appreciate its quiet operation, making it suitable for small living spaces. It effectively dries a variety of produce, from apples to exotic fruits, and is simple enough for a child to operate, thanks to its straightforward one-button function. While it lacks a temperature regulator and timer, it compensates with overheating protection, ensuring safety when left unattended. Initially, there may be a plastic smell, but it dissipates quickly. The dehydrator has proven durable, working efficiently for extended periods, although its price has increased over time. Overall, it is a decent unit for home use, offering good value for those looking to preserve modest quantities of produce.
Pros
Cons
A fruit and vegetable dryer isn't exactly an essential appliance, but these inexpensive devices can be very useful. I first encountered such a dryer at my sister's place, who lives in a small suburban settlement. She preserved almost everything in it, I believe everything that grew on the trees in their small garden and all the vegetables from their plot found their way onto her dryer's trays. In their home's pantry, you could find everything from dried peaches to dried garlic scapes in large and small plastic buckets. Naturally, after seeing this, I got inspired too and bought a dryer myself. Mine is simpler and cheaper because the quantities we preserve are much more modest. The first thing I was worried about was the noise. Many homemakers complain that these devices are very noisy, and in a city studio apartment, there's really no escaping the noise, unlike in a large multi-room house. My worries were unfounded. There is, of course, the sound of the fan running. But it's not loud and doesn't really get on your nerves. It dries well, and during this summer-autumn season, I managed to prepare a whole bunch of tasty goodies: from simple dried apples to exotic-for-our-area dried quince or cornelian cherries. Even a child can work with this dryer, as proven by my twelve-year-old daughter who volunteered to help me. The dryer itself doesn't have any regulators and simply turns on to a working state with one button. It is equipped with overheating protection, so it's not scary to leave it unattended. No temperature regulator. No timer. However, after unpacking, there was a strong smell of plastic, which fortunately dissipated quickly after running it without any food. |
A decent unit for home use. It has been working for many years without any problems. This year it has been almost a month without a break. Not yet |
