Another serious player from China
Among the shaft of Chinese mediocre equipment, the DUNU Topsound brand, with its OEM pedigree from the 90s and the head office in Taiwan, looks very respectable. At one time, they worked closely with the Fiio brand and, in particular, designed the excellent Fiio EX1 headphones. The hero of this review, DUNU Titan 6 is the flagship model in the "Titan" line, which stands out due to a fairly serious dynamic driver with a beryllium diaphragm (driver diameter as much as 12.6 mm), a durable premium-class case that is resistant to resonances, the presence of MMCX sockets and replaceable cables.
Premium equipment
If the theater starts with a hanger, then headphones start with the packaging. DUNU approached this issue with the utmost seriousness: in a beautiful box, a wood-coloured leather case is found, which is covered with pile on the inside so that nothing is scratched. In addition to the case, the package contains six pairs of tips for a variety of ear shapes. In terms of design, DUNU Titan 6 differs from previous Titans: the triangular body looks non-standard and resembles a balalaika in shape. A braided brown cable is attached to the headphones. The cable is quite high quality, smooth and due to its light weight it does not cling to clothes, pulling the headphones out of the ears.
Bass of extraordinary depth
The sound of the Titan 6 can be described as "thick" and "warm" characteristics. Dynamic drivers do an excellent job with bass: low frequencies are clearly drawn from 20 – 30 Hz (the frequency range is 5 – 40,000 Hz), and the bass itself sounds solid and fundamental, which is rarely heard in dynamic models without proper sealing of the ear canal. An equally important feature was the ability to reproduce a wide, deep and reliable sound stage. To find fault, we didn’t like the sound of the high frequencies a bit — they are relegated to the background, but because of the bump in the region of 2 kHz, the sound turns out to be slightly skewed. However, this can be easily corrected with an equalizer. I liked their unpretentiousness to the quality of the sound source: the characteristic features of the Titan family were equally audible both on a smartphone and on a stationary headphone amplifier. Therefore, advice to warm them up longer can be ignored.
