How to choose an air rifleHow to Choose a Reliable Air Rifle for Home Entertainment, Hunting, and Long-Range Shooting
Suitable not only as a first one but also as a main one.
20 December 2021
I have a Crosman 760B, which differs only in having a 5-shot magazine and a slightly different shape of the sight, but otherwise, you could say it's a twin brother. It's just my favorite air rifle among all I've had, in use for more than 4 years, with a very long-lasting part resource and just an enormous firing count - not every budget air gun can boast of this. Although the barrel is smooth, I was surprised by its accuracy when using not only lead pellets but also BBs. Recommended pellets are 0.28-0.45g; all others will just be spat out as it shoots. Accuracy when using a collimator on a smooth barrel can reach up to 25m (I'm shocked by such results myself). And with minimal hacksaw manipulations, it remains attractive - where the length already reaches 40cm, but in this case, I recommend zeroing in at 6m; shooting at longer distances will ensure greater accuracy. It has a 350 BBs reservoir, an 18-round magazine, and thanks to the magnets placed on the bolt, it allows loading pellets directly through the barrel. This model has a better-placed pellet reservoir, which makes it significantly shorter. Advantages over the Crosman 1377: price, availability of more convenient sighting devices, an 11mm dovetail, an 18-shot/350 BB magazine, a magnetized bolt, and although the barrel is smooth, it doesn't lag in accuracy (even when shortened). Since this is a multi-pump model, its main advantage over a spring-piston airgun is the ability to vary shot power by pumping less, allowing for indoor shooting when the weather is bad, but you still want to shoot. Unfortunately, there's not enough space for comments.
Price, simplicity, availability of the store and 11mm swallows, ease of maintenance (no need to dive into the tank until the speed decreases, just once a season drip oil on the seal), the parts, although plastic, are strong.
The only drawback will be its two-part construction, where it's necessary to remove the stock during transport to the shooting site – this is the only disadvantage.
