Functionality extension

Chieftec DSC-801 is an advanced USB hub or, more precisely, a docking station that significantly expands the range of ports of modern ultrabooks, whether it's an Apple Macbook or Windows-based counterparts. For the hub to work, it goes without saying that the laptop must have at least one fully functional USB Type-C port with support for the so-called “alternative” operating modes (Alternate Mode).

There are not many ports

Firstly, the Chieftec DSC-801 splits one USB Type-C input into three outputs: two classic Type-A version 3.1 Gen 1 (with a theoretical speed of up to 5 Gbps or a practical one of about 500 Mb / s) and a third Type-C , for example, to connect a smartphone. Secondly, there is another Type-C input for connecting a laptop charger. The docking station is capable of passing Power Delivery fast charging up to 60 watts through itself.

Monitor and Internet

Thirdly, an HDMI 2.0 video output is available with the ability to connect monitors and TVs with FullHD resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, or UltraHD and 30 Hz. A refresh rate of 60 Hz at 4K resolution, alas, requires an even more modern HDMI 2.1 standard. Fourth, a wired Ethernet network controller with speeds up to 1 Gbps is provided, which can be useful, for example, for connecting to a secure corporate LAN.
