Externally, the device, which has a solid body and handle, does not shine with a special grace of forms. The black colour of the plastic, chosen for the model for practical reasons, is diluted with the grey colour of the matte translucent window of the 330 mL water compartment and the filler cap. In general, the design is not at all impressive. And what then "catches" this iron?
Without a thermostat: is it really possible?
The main feature of the model, which at first is puzzling, is the absence of such a familiar design element as a dial for selecting the temperature regime for different types of fabrics. It's amazing, but the Braun iCare technology used in the iron allows smart electronics to automatically select the optimal ironing temperature for any type of fabric without additional settings. One can only guess how the electronics manage to recognize the type of fabric on the fly and instantly set the correct mode. But it works! Another know-how from Braun is the branded Eloxal Plus stainless steel sole, which received a 3D Saphir BackGlide sapphire coating. In terms of hardness and strength of the sole material, which cannot be scratched, the model surpasses all existing analogues. The shape of the sole of the iron, made with roundings like a snowboard, allows you to rotate the device on the fabric around 360 °, quickly changing the direction of movement.
Clean steam
The combination of high power of 2800 W, steam output of 50 g/min and steam boost of 230 g/min guarantees high ironing performance even on the most difficult fabrics. Numerous steam holes on the sole are divided into 3 active zones, complementing the convenience of working with fabrics, and the groove between the body and the sole makes it easy to manoeuvre among the buttons and pocket folds. The device has all the standard features, including self-cleaning of scale, water filtration with an anti-lime rod, a system for protecting fabrics from dripping condensate and an automatic shut-off function.
The iron is ready to use right out of the box; you just need to add water. The soleplate is excellent, glides smoothly, and has nicely rounded edges, allowing you to iron any corner of clothing. The cord is quite long at 2.5 meters, which is very convenient and doesn’t get tangled while ironing. The steam burst works well, you can practically steam clothes, and there’s also a vertical ironing mode. The water tank lasts for about 45 minutes of ironing, depending on how heavily you use the steam. And if you used to adjust the dial for different fabrics, this iron automatically determines the necessary temperature, which is one less hassle. We only pour filtered water into the iron, but it still has a cleaning system.
I was also pleased with the automatic shut-off feature; in the vertical position, the iron turns off after about 2-3 minutes. I haven't tried it in the horizontal position. The only downside is the inconvenient placement of the steam button—right above it is the spray button, making it hard to hold the iron and press the steam button without hitting the spray button. Overall, the iron is excellent.
