Compact and lightweight electric saw

The shape of the body immediately shows that the Black & Decker KS880EC is not an ordinary reciprocating saw. This form factor is due to the transverse arrangement of the engine. The motor has a small power (400 W) - two to three times less than the average. But due to such a small motor, Black & Decker managed to make the saw compact and very light. It fits comfortably in the hand and the weight is suitable even for women and the elderly. During operation, this tool is held with one hand. The saw can be a bit nodding (the center of gravity is slightly shifted forward), but this even helps it bite into the material being cut more aggressively without additional pressure.

Doesn't cut fast, but very clean

This saw has a small working stroke (the blade reciprocates with an amplitude of only 10 mm). But the frequency of these movements is large - 4600 strokes / min (one and a half to two times higher than that of a typical reciprocating saw). Due to the high speed of the toothed blade, a cleaner cut is obtained. Therefore, you can cut live branches on trees without leaving “burrs” on the bark, saw OSB without “raising wool” or cut insulation with granules (like foam) without crumbling it. The main thing is to remember about the low power of the motor and not to overdo it with the load.

Stock up on cutting blades ahead of time

This saw has a convenient and original mechanism for keyless blade replacement (press the release key, turn the blade 90 ° and remove it from the pin). But it makes little sense. After all, there is only one file in the kit, and it is universal - it can cut wood (cutting depth is limited to 100 mm), steel (up to 3 mm thick) or plastic pipes (up to 50 mm in diameter). The canvas here is unusual. It is short and wide (like a classic saw). Therefore, not all canvases are suitable for Black & Decker KS880EC, but only special ones. They are produced by only a few manufacturers: Black & Decker itself, Piranha and a couple of others. They are not very common on sale, so when buying a saw, it is better to immediately buy blades for it in order to have interchangeable equipment on hand just in case.

Between a jigsaw and a real saw

Despite its unusualness, the Black&Decker KS880EC is a fairly popular saw that has been produced since the late 2000s and is still in demand. But if you plan to attack thick logs, then there is no point in buying this saw. It is a tool for other tasks. It is suitable for gardeners and summer residents, as well as for those who make repairs with their own hands. In fact, the Black & Decker KS880EC bridges the gap between electric jigsaws and large reciprocating saws, but it can (with certain reservations) perform the functions of both. Of the other network tools of this kind, only the Black & Decker RS890K and AEG US 400 XE can be distinguished, but they cost much more.
