This is one of the most powerful gaming models of 2017 release. Like all laptops in the Republic of Gamers series, it has a bold and colorful design. From other devices with the ROG logo, it is distinguished not only by the most performant iron at the time of release, but also by the modest thickness of the aluminium case, which does not exceed 18 mm. It is customary to see such modest dimensions in models with an integrated video core, but this is a completely different case.
The nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Max-Q discrete graphics card features 8GB of native GDDR5X video memory for gaming performance comparable to the most powerful desktop systems. This graphics card, along with a Core i7 7700HQ processor, up to 24GB of DDR4 RAM, and a high-speed M.2 SSD up to 512GB, make the Asus ROG Zephyrus GX501VI one of the most desirable systems specifically designed for gamers.
In addition, the laptop is equipped with a 15.6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920x1080 and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. This keeps the game display in sync and eliminates the typical tearing that often occurs on low-end systems. A capacious battery can keep the laptop in gaming mode for about an hour. In a quieter software environment, for example, when watching a video, this figure increases by 3-3.5 times.

I have been eyeing gaming laptops for a long time, and there are two reasons for this. The first is, of course, my love for computer games. In college, I was a hardcore gamer, but now work takes up a lot of time, and I don't get to play as often. However, it's damn pleasing to do it with a comfortable frame rate at the highest graphics settings. This is the world's thinnest laptop with a top-tier mobile version of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card, equipped with 8 GB of its own memory. How engineers managed to fit it, along with a high-end 7th generation 4-core Core i7 processor, into a body less than 17 mm thick remains a mystery to me. Along with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and an ultra-fast SSD-M.2 drive, this combination can provide a high frame rate in any game, even the newest releases of 2017. But that's not all. The 15.6-inch screen, built on a high-quality and fast IPS panel, supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz and G-Sync technology, eliminating any screen tearing. I won't go into detail about minor features like the high-speed WiFi adapter, good webcam, RGB keyboard backlighting, or noise-canceling microphone array )) Very high price. I have an excellent salary (even by IT sector standards), but to buy this beast, I had to seriously cut my usual budget. Still, 2,521 EUR is a substantial amount )) The ultra-compact case makes itself known under complex loads (for example, a 40-minute run in Battlefield 1 at maximum graphics settings) as the processor reaches throttling temperatures and starts to reduce clock speeds. A single SSD is enough to install only five or six modern gaming projects (for example, one GTA V takes up around 72 gigabytes on the disk). |
