For beatmakers
One of the features of Alesis VI49 is focused on beatmaking. There are 16 pads here instead of the standard 8 and are arranged in the form of a familiar MPC grid and placed in the lower left block of the keyboard. In the latter case, they are always at hand, you do not need to reach for them through the entire keyboard, simultaneously grabbing the faders or the DAW control unit with your hand. Plus, the pads themselves are comfortable, not slippery and sensitive like on Akai keyboards. It would be possible to do more, but then the keyboard itself would have to be increased.
Advanced control box
However this rearrangement created another problem — the pitch and modulation wheels are now located on top, and when you reach for them, on the contrary, you can accidentally hook the pads. But this is not a minus, but a design feature.
The main control unit also turned out to be not quite ordinary. Instead of the usual 8 faders + 8 rotary knobs, here we have 12 knobs and 36 buttons that can be freely assigned to your own needs in any sequencer. On the one hand, it turns out to be universal, on the other hand, it is often more convenient to work with a keyboard with ready-made MIDI mapping. However, no one bothers to download the script for your DAW from the Alesis website and work with everything ready.
The perfect trainer
The keys on the keyboard turned out to be a standard size, semi-weighted with aftertouch support. They do not have a hammer action, but they feel more convincing than in the previous version of the tools from Alesis. There are 49 keys in total, but since there are buttons for shifting octaves, there should not be a shortage of such a number. Plus, the keyboard comes with a limited subscription to the Melodics service with its unusual approach to keyboard training. For example, instead of lessons for popular songs, here you can find lessons for house music classics from Marshall Jefferson or Larry Heard. Electronic music lovers will definitely appreciate it.
Versatility
Thanks to all this, the Alesis VI49 is suitable for constantly practicing musicians who, instead of sharpening for some kind of DAW, need versatility. Although, there is also a disc with Ableton Live Lite.
