The musical equipment of the German brand Native Instruments is characterized by high quality and affordability. The Komplete Kontrol A25 MIDI keyboard costs only $170, while it has a lot of advantages inherent in professional models.
Nothing extra
Externally, the instrument turned out in the best German traditions: a strict rectangular design, black coloring and some bulkiness. The controller measures almost half a metre in length and 9 cm in height, taking into account the encoder knobs, it weighs 2.4 kg, and although it is assembled soundly and solidly, as for a plastic case, it could be lighter. However, with a more detailed acquaintance, you understand for the sake of what such sacrifices.
The keyboard received full-size, semi-weighted synth keys with aftertouch. They are branded, although in terms of tactile sensations they are in no way inferior to Fatar keyboards.
Everything for a complete job
Pre-installed proprietary software Komplete Start and full integration with MASCHINE, Logic Pro X, GarageBand, Ableton Live, Cubase and Nuendo open up unlimited possibilities for creativity. This allows the keyboard to be included in the studio process out of the box and used with any user-friendly digital workstation (DAW).
For audio editing and recording, convenient pitch and modulation wheels, 8 encoders, octave shift function, and 19 function buttons, including transport control, are provided. The arpeggiator makes it easy to work with chords, and the Smart Play mode ensures that notes are played correctly. All current information is displayed on a monochrome LCD display, which should make it even easier to control the device, but only if you have good eyesight. The display window could have been made larger.
The midi keyboard connects via USB B with all devices running 64-bit Windows and Mac OS and supports the connection of a single foot controller.
The Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol A25 will definitely appeal to those who prefer a synth keyboard with good response and extensive integration options. This is quite a serious tool for serious work, although not without flaws.
