compact SFX format combined with a real power of 850W; fully modular design; 80 PLUS Gold certification with high efficiency; availability of modern 16-pin (Gen 5) for new graphics cards; stable +12V rail at 70A; full set of protections OVP/UVP/OPP/SCP; compatibility with ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards; quiet operation at low and medium loads; an excellent option for Mini-ITX and Micro-ATX systems. The SFX format limits the cooling capacity — under high loads, the fan may be louder; shorter cables — in larger cases, you might need extension cables; a single powerful 12 V rail requires proper load distribution among cables; an 80 mm fan is less quiet than a 120 mm in ATX models. |
Very poor quality unit, gold certification and no smell Compact and modular From the first week of operation, there was the sound of current even at idle, and under system load, an unpleasant whistling was heard. |
Compact Design
The 1stPlayer PS-650SFX comes in the popular SFX form factor, which is noticeably more compact than classic ATX solutions and is perfect for small PCs. Despite its modest size, it houses a full set of key components: power transistors, diode bridge, transformer, and filter chokes. To reduce heat generation in such a dense configuration, the power supply unit has received the 80 PLUS Gold energy efficiency certification.
Longevity for Years Ahead
Cooling is managed by an 80-mm Yate Loon fan with a reliable HYB hydrodynamic bearing. The manufacturer claims an MTBF of up to 100,000 hours. Additionally, a semi-passive operation mode is implemented: when the load is less than 30%, the fan stops completely, reducing noise levels and decreasing dust accumulation inside the case. Japanese Nippon capacitors, rated for temperatures up to 105°C, help maintain stable operation under these conditions.
Protection Against Any Surprises
The device is based on the Helly Technology platform with an LLC resonant converter, capable of stable operation in power grids with voltages from 100 to 240 V. In addition to standard protections UVP, OVP, SCP, and OPP, a varistor is provided for additional protection against impulse overvoltages, including lightning strikes. All cables have a modular design, neatly secured with reusable velcro straps, and the accompanying bracket allows for the installation of a compact SFX power supply in a case with an ATX mounting location.

The modular scheme significantly simplifies assembly: in compact cases, each extra cable is an obstacle to airflow, so the ability to connect only the necessary wires noticeably improves system temperatures. In real-world tests, the PS-850SFX consistently maintains voltages even under prolonged load, and Active PFC together with 80 PLUS Gold certification ensures high efficiency and lower heat generation.
The 80 mm fan operates quietly under normal loads—barely audible during office work, video playback, or moderate gaming. Only when consumption approaches 70–80% of the nominal does the noise become more noticeable, which is typical behavior for SFX models. A full set of protections guarantees safe operation even in unstable networks.
