A hard outer shell combines wi more→th a polycarbonate lower shell to create a two-piece shell that is fused to the inner liner, producing a strong and durable helmet. Giro based the design of its Dime kids’ helmet on its adult helmet—the Quarter. The Dime is comprised of an ABS shell with impact-absorbing EPS foam inside. The interior padding can be adjusted to per more→fect the Dime’s fit. The Dime also has eight air vents to cool Junior’s head. Smith updated the versatile Kids' Scout Jr MIPS Helmet with the Multi-directional Impact Protection System to give greater protection while skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking. MIPS allows a sma more→ll rotation of the outer shell relative to the liner when heads hit at angled crashes in order to decrease rotational forces. Apart from MIPS, this Scout Jr has the same features and construction as the original Scout Jr. It has all the comfort and safety features needed for rocketing downhill, and is certified for both snow and bike helmet standards.
