The sixth generation of a successful line
The Thinkpad X1 Carbon line is positioned by Lenovo as a lighter and more compact alternative to the flagship T-series. This makes small 14-inch laptops look like 12-inch models.
Bulletproof
If you don’t know what kind of gadget is in front of you, you won’t immediately understand what you paid money for. The device does not look like a typical premium laptop "more than $ 1000", but like a miniature ascetic machine for serious tasks. This impression is created by a single-colour case made of durable and lightweight carbon fiber. It is pleasant to the touch, is not afraid of small scratches and bumps (complies with the military standard MIL-STD-810G), but is quickly covered with fingerprints. Externally, the laptop looks strictly and minimalistic, but the Thinkpad logo in the right corner under the keyboard slightly spoils the impression. It does not really fit into the overall concept and looks like a randomly pasted advertising sticker.
without brakes
In terms of hardware, the new Thinkpad X1 Carbon is a near-top laptop: it has an eight-thread Core i7 processor with a maximum frequency of 4 GHz, 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD. The latter works according to the NVMe standard and provides a speed several times higher than that of a conventional SSD and ten times higher than that of old HDDs. Thanks to such hardware, the Thinkpad X1 Carbon turns on and off almost instantly, and heavy projects in software such as Final Cut and Ableton are loaded in 10 to 15 seconds.
Up to 15 hours of battery life
Among the positive aspects of the laptop, it is worth highlighting very cool-sounding built-in speakers, a powerful arsenal for protecting user data (biometrics, kensington lock and the list goes on), an excellent battery (up to 19 hours of battery life) with support for fast charging and a USB-C connector, a high-quality high-contrast display with thin side bezels and a full range of ports, including Thunderbolt support. In terms of communication, you can only criticize the inconvenient location of the card reader on the rear end. And to open it, you need a paperclip.
Comfortable keyboard with proprietary trackpoint
The Thinkpad X1 Carbon keyboard deserves special mention. The keys have a relatively large travel for low-profile keyboards and a clear tactile response. At the same time, the buttons are pressed gently — those who have to type a lot of text will definitely appreciate it. And of course, you can’t ignore the traditional red trackpoint hidden right in the middle of the keyboard, which allows you to replace the mouse and touchpad. Its principle of operation is quite simple: the direction of pressing determines the direction of movement of the mouse cursor, and the pressing force sets the speed of the cursor. Although it sounds simple in words, the feeling of working with him is quite unusual. But the thing is really convenient. Not without reason, it has been a trademark of the Thinkpad line since the mid-90s.
