Model overview based on user reviews
The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14ALC05 is a compact and powerful laptop, ideal for everyday use and tasks like coding and browsing. With 16GB RAM, it handles multiple applications smoothly, and its battery life ranges from 6 to 8 hours, depending on usage. The laptop's design is stylish, featuring an aluminum body and a two-level white backlight keyboard. Sound quality is impressive, with good high and mid frequencies, and the camera shutter is a notable security feature. However, users have noted some drawbacks, such as limited ports, screen backlight bleeding, and dull color reproduction. The laptop lacks an Ethernet port, which might necessitate additional accessories like a hub. Despite these issues, it remains a strong choice for those seeking a balance of performance and portability, especially for tasks that don't require high-end graphics. The price point may require consideration, but overall, it offers a solid performance for its category.
Pros
Cons
Autonomy: at full brightness with constant connection to Wi-Fi and an open Chrome, it lasts 6-7 hours. However, the screen brightness is just enough, i.e., you can't work in the sun, but I didn't need that anyway. Power: 16GB RAM is perfect for a bunch of tabs in Chrome, an open Visual Studio Code, and a couple of other programs running, such as a DB client and Postman. I didn't expect a laptop with an integrated graphics card to run anything on ultra graphics. Since I don't play new projects, 70-80 fps in Dota 2 on maximum settings was satisfactory for me. The system boots up in seconds. Windows 10 Version 21H1 starts in 5 seconds, so catching the BIOS will be very difficult if you need it). Design and appearance: aluminum body, two-level white backlight, which almost does not differ in brightness. There's no keyboard wobble, and the key travel is pleasant. No complaints in this regard, if you're not a fan of extravagant "gamer" shapes, this is a very stylish model. The camera shutter is a significant plus, especially when all learning moves online. Sound: the speaker sound quality surprised me. Good high and mid frequencies, even with a hint of bass). The microphone is of high quality, recording sound well, without hissing and breakages. Support: I don't know if this only applies to Lenovo, but using the serial number on their website allows you to find all information about the device, drivers, manuals, etc. The presence of official forums is also pleasing, you can find a solution to the problem if one arises. (see below) 1. Encountered issues while installing Windows 10 (see image 1). Since I purchased the no-OS version, I needed to install it myself. In short, the system wouldn't install from the bootable USB drive - the issue was the lack of Windows drivers for the SSD. Solved by searching Lenovo forums for similar issues experienced by others. Downloaded the driver from the official site, but for a different(!) model. To my surprise, it worked and the OS installed without problems. If you encounter the same issue, the solution can be found here: (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/%D0%A1%D0%B5%D1%80%D 2. Screen backlight bleeding: not critical, but noticeable on a dark screen in complete darkness (see image 2, at the bottom of the screen). 3. Color reproduction: dull colors (in my opinion, it will be hard to work with photos) leaning towards yellow. 4. Few ports! 2 USB 3.2 on the right and one type-c on the left side. Note that not all models have a charging port, so your type-c will often be occupied, leaving only 2 USB ports, which forces you to buy a hub. The absence of an Ethernet port also complicates matters (there's a card reader, whose presence seems odd given the lack of more essential ports). 5. Poor image quality of the webcam. Not too noticeable in good lighting, but in low light, your conversation partner will see only "noise." |
Well, here it is! A beauty! By the way, it looks much more interesting in person, but anyway, my model is on the 5300u - the built-in one is quite strong, Vega is much better than Intel's, that's why I chose AMD, to get a powerful computer without spending too much. The color reproduction is bright. The keyboard is comfortable. The laptop is fast, it works with the OS right away, and I like the picture quality, and the battery life is decent. About 8 hours, probably. But they are not here. |

I mostly work in code editors and browse, so such technical specifications are excessive for that, so think twice about why you need 8 cores, 16 threads).
Bought it for university studies, so I could work anywhere in the city, and connect it as a workstation at home (plugged in a second monitor, keyboard, and off to coding).
Bought at the beginning of September 2021 for 61,000 rubles.
My model: ideapad 5-14ALC05 82LM00A6RK.
P.S. I'm writing this review because I couldn’t find anyone’s experience with this model myself, so I bought it almost blindly. I hope the information provided here helps make the right choice. Although the laptop has many advantages, there are also drawbacks that can be significant for certain usage scenarios.
The price of 61,000 rubles (now higher) makes you think about the feasibility of such a purchase. I recommend thinking three times about why you need a laptop. If there's no answer - build a PC.
