Night freezing of roads in east european latitudes occurs with enviable regularity. Whereas during the day they are covered with a layer of moisture from melted snow. Studded tyres are not a panacea for such conditions, but good Hook-and-loop tyres are just right.

Ride balance

Model UltraGrip Ice 2 from the world famous tyre concern Goodyear "rolled out" on the road in 2014. It uses a V-shaped tread pattern formed by numerous arrow-shaped blocks from shoulder to shoulder. While driving, the central blocks create a whole guard of multidirectional gripping edges, thanks to which the tyre exhibits excellent traction properties in the longitudinal direction, good directional stability, low noise and low rolling resistance.

Adaptive rubber compound

The cryo-adaptive rubber compound of the tyre has a two-layer construction. The base layer of the tread based on a solid compound is responsible for handling at high readings of the mercury column of the thermometer, the top layer is responsible for maintaining the elasticity of the tyre at extremely low temperatures. In each layer, different lamellas are used — triangular prisms at the top, zigzag and flat slits at the bottom.

drainage networks

Powerful shoulder zones are separated from the central segment of the tyre by two longitudinal aqua-drainage channels. They are adjacent to multiple transverse grooves for the evacuation of excess water masses and melted snow. The model is immune to hydroplaning and tenaciously clings to the canvas on snowy roads. Equal competitors with a Nordic type of character will still have to be carefully looked for among the “friction clutches”.
