bought 2 at the beginning of 2020 at one of the last reasonable prices, EUR 2350, 2060, i7 9750. The machine runs hot, heats up a lot, but that's its only downside, which is offset by the fact that the computer is really compact and convenient with such wild power. Naturally, it's noisy in maximum performance during games. I play RDR2 with graphics almost at ultra (lowered a couple of options). Of course, undervolting through ThrottleStop and a stand; for those too lazy to buy a stand and hesitant to spend money, there's a lifehack: I taped two regular bottle caps together, made three of those, and put the laptop on them. Undervolting plus my homemade stand lowers the CPU temperature by 10-15 degrees (RDR2 on ultra at 90 degrees, even when playing all day), and I monitor the temperature through MSI Afterburner. appearance, compactness, lightness, awesome display, bright vibrant colors, super powerful hardware, handles top games on ultra settings, went through an unintended crash test, fell hard from a windowsill, from a height over 1.2 meters, with all devices plugged in (mouse, keyboard, HDMI), thought it was done for, the display, ports, all that, but ended up just like nothing happened, a couple of chips and that's it, slightly bent USB port, but works like new. Been using it for 2 years, warranty has expired, works like clockwork, I play games, do office tasks, and enjoy life. At the time of purchase, this machine had the most reasonable price, was choosing between it, an MSI, and some ASUS, there was a €10-15 difference in favor of this machine. When they brought it out in a box, I was very surprised, just a plain cardboard box with a Dell label, no flashy packaging, all about the hardware. hot, noisy at maximum settings (obvious). No other downsides. |
I use this laptop for studying and light gaming. All office programs work well, with no issues. Great graphics and speed. The battery drains faster than the manufacturer claims, and it also feels heavier than expected. I've gotten used to it, but the sensitivity of the touchpad was an unpleasant surprise. It's so sensitive that it's very hard to keep the cursor where you want. As a result, I kept clicking on things I didn't intend to, just because the cursor moved before I touched the left button below the pad. In the end, I bought a separate mouse and disabled the touchpad. As for gaming, this laptop can handle many modern games without problems, except for the ones I seem to like. For example, Apex Legends runs great on high settings, but Battlefield V performs horribly even on the lowest settings. If you consider this laptop for gaming, it should be as an addition to an existing gaming PC. All office programs work well. Excellent graphics and speed. The laptop can handle many modern games without issues. Apex Legends runs perfectly on high settings. The battery drains faster than the manufacturer claims, and the weight also feels heavier. The touchpad is so sensitive that it's very difficult to keep the pointer where you want it. Battlefield V runs terribly even on the lowest settings. |
I bought it in August 2020 (configuration 15.6"(1920x1080)IPS/ i7-9750H(2.6GHz)/ 8GB/ 1TB HDD/ 128GB SSD/ GeForce RTX 2060 6GB) based on criteria like "laptop with an Nvidia graphics card (CUDA support), a fairly fast processor, decent cooling, and repairability" for development and calculations, I work under Linux (Arch). In the end, I didn't need the calculations on the GPU... I mainly use it for development (back-end), writing texts, various teaching work, reading, and occasionally for games (native/steam + proton). - handles calculations and work in IDEs well - quiet (when heavy calculations or games are not running) - nice keyboard with a numeric keypad - does not overheat on heavy tasks (calculations with all cores loaded >90%, games) if placed on a small stand (with a gap of about a centimeter underneath) - Around six months later, the left-click on the touchpad stopped working, and the clicks on the pad were quite noisy. - The USB at the back never worked. - Potentially problematic UEFI: When installing Linux, I found out the native UEFI didn't apply the parameters set for system boot, so I had to use rEFInd — a one-time issue, unlikely to be relevant to many; also, it didn't want to read installation USBs, so I had to set it up via netboot, but it's very likely my own error. - A little over a year after purchase, artifacts began appearing on the screen during input or scrolling in refreshing areas (graphical console, LO Calc — lightweight applications with minimal load, and also on the login screen upon waking); I couldn't determine the cause — probably software glitches rather than consequences of some random overheating, but overheating isn't completely ruled out. |
