Improved Spikes

This tire has a typical directional tread design with a central V-shaped tread pattern. In sizes R17 and above, the model is equipped with advanced ContiFlexStud studs. Significant differences can be observed between the studs in the center of the tread and on the shoulder areas: the former are responsible for longitudinal grip, while the latter are responsible for lateral grip. The sharp “teeth” of the studs provide reliable grip on icy and snowy surfaces, which increases safety in winter conditions.

Innovations in studding

The innovative stud technology used allows this tire to provide excellent grip on snowy and icy roads, as well as provide effective braking in all weather conditions. However, in practice it has been found that the anti-skid studs sometimes fall out. To prevent this problem, Continental engineers replaced the sharp "teeth" with standard studs with an aluminium body and a tungsten carbide core. These studs have been used in models R14 to R16 since the very beginning of production.
