Ultralight ultrabook
The first thing you pay attention to when looking at the Asus ZenBook S is its dimensions (16 mm thick with a weight of 1.09 kg). This is not enough even by the standards of always thin and light ultrabooks. Carrying in a bag is such a pleasure.
Reliability and convenience
According to the engineers, their priority was not only compactness, but also reliability with convenience. So the laptop uses a cunning ErgoLift hinge, which, when the lid is opened, automatically lifts the upper half of the laptop and tilts the screen at a comfortable angle for the user. Thanks to this unusual design, the hands rest comfortably on the keyboard, and the cooling system dissipates excess heat without any problems, which is why the laptop practically does not heat up. However there is one caveat: if the laptop works for a long time under peak load, then the case gradually heats up and can become quite hot over time. And it stays cold for a long time. Apparently, this is due to the construction of solid aluminium. But the case is shockproof and complies with the military standard MIL-STD-810G.
Touchpad with touch Numpad
An unusual feature of the model was the NumberPad touchpad, which can play the role of a numeric keypad for quickly entering numbers. And even in this mode, it continues to perform the functions of a conventional touchpad. Thanks to this solution, it was possible to fit a full-fledged keyboard with a functional block, a standard size of keys and a backlight in the case. Other highlights include a pair of high-quality Harman Kardon speakers, impressive battery life (up to 13 hours on a single charge), and a face scanner instead of a standard fingerprint scanner.
High-quality IPS with natural colour reproduction
The ZenBook 14 has a 14-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1920x1080 and minimal bezels around the screen. ASUS claims that the display occupies 92% of the total surface area. The colour gamut is almost identical to the sRGB colour space, which will appeal to designers and anyone who works with graphics. And non-designers will also like it, the picture here is excellent. Well, in terms of hardware, we have a good, but not a fantastic bundle of an eight-thread Core i5, 8 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD.
