A single 16 GB DDR4 RAM module from the Hong Kong brand Arktek. It features a tall and thick metal heatsink with an aggressive design, supports Intel XMP technology, and boasts high stock frequencies and decent overclocking potential. The model is part of the Arktek Thunderbird overclocking overclocking series, but the affordable price puts it on a par with utility RAM modules that operate at minimum speed and do not support active cooling. According to official specifications, Arktek Thunderbird DDR4 1x16Gb is based on DDR4 memory chips clocked at 3200 MHz (16-18-18-38, voltage 1.35 V) and guarantees high throughput up to 25600 MB/s. By the standards of 2022, the device provides decent performance and will be equally useful as part of a mid-range workstation and a fairly powerful gaming P...C designed for high graphics settings and 2K / 4K resolution. Thanks to the use of high-quality memory chips, Arktek Thunderbird has little room for manual or automatic overclocking. To make the process run smoothly, the memory chips and the control controller were covered with an aggressive aluminium heatsink with a small comb, which is somewhat reminiscent of the Transformers logo design. RAM performance has been tested with AMD Ryzen and Intel Core based configurations released between 2014 and 2021.

Selected chips

Arktek Thunderbird DDR4 is a series of RAM from a young brand from Hong Kong. Includes 8 and 16 gigabyte modules with a frequency of 2666 or 3200 MHz. Moreover, this is not ordinary JEDEC memory with auto-timings, but selected overclocker XMP with reduced latencies. Thus, for the frequency of 3200 MHz, the optimal formula CL16-18-18-38 was selected (the lower the numbers, the better).

Overclocking potential

For maximum stability, the supply voltage has been slightly increased - from 1.2 to 1.35 V. The XMP profile is activated by literally pressing one button in the BIOS settings menu. If you wish, you can experiment with further manual overclocking - 3600 MHz will definitely be conquered. And then it depends on the success of a particular instance of memory, processor and motherboard.

For PCs and laptops

The Thunderbird memory is wrapped in thick-walled metal radiators, which also serve a decorative function. True, the radiators are about two centimeters higher than the PCB, which is worth considering when choosing a processor cooler. In addition to desktop DDR4 memory, Arktek’s product range includes radiator-less SO-DIMM DDR3, which is still in demand for upgrading laptops.
