workhorse

Aspire is perhaps one of the most famous and popular laptop lines in the Acer range. And this is not surprising, because most people first of all need simple working laptops with not too slow hardware, a simple display and an adequate price tag. That laptop in the eyes of many buyers is the new Acer Aspire 5.

Keep up with the times

However, it would be wrong to evaluate the new Aspire model as an ordinary workhorse without frills. Acer has seriously upgraded the laptop on almost all fronts, equipping it with modern wireless modules and ports (there are USB-C and USB A with a bandwidth of 5 Gbps. The rest of the set of additional features includes a TPM security module, a kensington lock mount, LAN- port, which many laptop manufacturers are now refusing.

Optimal Performance

In terms of hardware, they also promise a rich choice without the need to squeeze yourself. While the low-power Intel Pentium chip could be found in the 2019 models, the updated version will use only the "stones" of the Intel Core and AMD Ryzen series. Also, the top-end equipment boasts an NVIDIA GeForce MX450, a capacious 1 TB SSD and 24 gigabytes of RAM. So far, we have seen such amounts of RAM mainly in gaming laptops.

Classic forms

At the same time, the appearance of the laptop has not undergone practically any changes. This is still a strict, modern, but not too flashy laptop in a classic 15-inch form factor. The thickness of the case and the weight of the laptop are within the normal range, the frames on the sides are thin, but the top and bottom are really large. The main innovation was the ergonomic hinge, which, when the display is opened, slightly raises the upper part of the case above the table, to some extent replacing the laptop stand.

Model overview based on user reviews
The Acer Aspire 5 A515-56 is a well-assembled laptop with a solid build quality and a responsive touchpad. It offers the flexibility to add memory and an SSD, enhancing its performance. However, users have noted issues with the screen quality, particularly when opting for a TN panel instead of an IPS. There are also concerns about memory compatibility, as using a 3200 MHz module can lead to a blue screen, while a 2666 MHz module works fine. Some users experienced battery-related issues, such as the laptop heating up when turned off and erratic behavior when turning on. A BIOS update seemed to improve battery performance, but the laptop occasionally fails to wake from sleep mode when connected to power. Despite these issues, the laptop performs well for basic tasks like working in Office, Zoom, and messengers. Overall, it is a decent option for those who are tech-savvy and can manage minor technical hiccups.

Cons

For the price of 15k UAH at that time it was already a distant purchase

Adding a note on the verge of the 22nd day. Due to the battery capacity at that time, it began to show a few films during blackouts. The presence of a fast SSD will significantly improve the comfort of use on par with the old laptop on the HDD. Also, do not throw out the old HDD by installing it in the same laptop for different files.
The quality of assembly and "fit" of the details is at a good level, Ssd, and the touchpad is significantly better than in the model from HP.
Screen, I saved a bit and bought with a TN panel instead of IPS. When installing a memory stick at 3200 - blue screen, bought 2666 - everything works.

The incorrect memory frequency is specified, with an additional module at 3200 the 'blue screen' appears. However, when purchasing modules at 2666, everything works. Therefore, do not immediately buy a laptop and a memory module mentioned on the purchasing website.

I don't recommend it unless you're a techie.

Overall, the laptop meets the requirements: work in Office, Zoom, Canvas, messengers. Bought it for my wife. BUT, after a day, while it was turned off, the laptop heated up around the processor area (as I understood, on the left side). So much so that I thought it was going to fail. By morning, it cooled down because the battery had drained to zero.

Surprisingly, it turned on. I went looking for updates. Yes, there was a BIOS update for the battery: 1.26 Fix AC charge ignore bit. After the update, life seemed to get better.

BUT sometimes, you lift the lid, and it doesn’t turn on. The keyboard lights up, and that’s it. Only after forcing it to shut down does it start normally and work in standard mode. Sometimes it turns on fine after opening the lid. Basically, it's a dance with turning it on and off.

I also noticed lately that when it’s connected to the network, it doesn’t go into sleep mode after closing the lid. As soon as you unplug the cord, it falls asleep.

If you turn it off completely, it starts normally, no questions asked. It's running Windows 10. I even reinstalled it. But, the same dances.

Otherwise, no complaints.
Overall, it's good. It does what it was purchased for. There's an option to add memory and an SSD.
Turning on the laptop is a lottery. The battery has a mind of its own, or there are some components related to it.
