Motorized zoom lens with Extreme Dynamic XD linear motors for focus and zoom control. The model is released under the cavalry of Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras, it is addressed to both photographers and videographers. The lens covers a wide-angle focal length range of 16-35mm and has a constant aperture of f/4 throughout the entire zoom range. The optical design of the Sony 16-35mm f/4.0 G FE PZ consists of 13 elements in 12 groups.

It includes two advanced aspherical elements, a conventional aspherical lens, one each of an ED element and a Super ED element. The lens is focused on sharpness from a distance of 28 cm at the short end and from 24 cm at maximum approximation. Note that the focus and zoom of the model are internal. The design of the lens provides separate rings for controlling zoom, focus and aperture.

The last ring can be switched to stepless mode, and the manual focus ring has a linear stroke. Also, zooming is supposed to be controlled by means of a rocker selector - while the rate of change in focal length depends on how much the lever deviates from the middle position. The lens is protected from dust and moisture, and its front lens has a fluorine coating. The model is compatible with filters with a diameter of 72 mm. The camera lens increases the weight of the “carcass” of the carcass by 353 g.
