In 2022, Apple has adjusted the lineup, replacing the iPhone Mini with the iPhone Plus phablet. Like the classic iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Plus phablet is not much different from the previous generation of Apple smartphones. The case is made of glass and metal, everyone’s favorite notch with Face ID sensors is cut out in the top of the display, and an asymmetric camera block sticks out on the back panel. The A15 Bionic processor is responsible for processing data and functioning of the device, which has increased the performance of the GPU by 80%. The centrally located 6.7-inch OLED display supports Dolby Vision/HDR10/HLG and overall looks just as great as ever. The screen refresh rate is locked at 60Hz.

In the 14th generation of the iPhone, the main innovations touched on the capabilities of the camera and the sphere of health. In particular, the Crash Detection function has appeared, which, using an accelerometer and a gyroscope, can determine that the owner has been in an accident and immediately send an SOS message to emergency services. Moreover, the iPhone 14 Plus can send SOS even if there is no mobile coverage using satellite communications. True, at first, satellite communications will be available only in the US and Canada.

The second important innovation concerns the camera update. Apple has finally been able to make its all-in-one photo enhancer Photonic Engine, which uses the Deep Fusion AI suite launched in 2019 to process photos in the background. Using complex algorithms, it refines each frame pixel by pixel, optimizing texture, detail, color and noise levels. Apple promises a significant improvement in quality without changing the key characteristics of the photo. Together with improved sensors, which have increased aperture ratio, the iPhone 14 Plus camera performs much better when shooting at night or in poor lighting. When shooting video, a new Action mode with enhanced stabilization has been added, and the front camera has acquired autofocus.
